Anonymous asked: Whats so bad about slut shaming?

    myfeetlitup:

    Uhhh

Shaming people for the choices they make about their own bodies is bad?  It’s an attempt to police other people and the rights and freedoms they should have, and it feeds into a social atmosphere that dehumanizes people (especially women) to the point where attitudes like “A slut can’t be raped” or “She can’t respect her body so why should anyone else” or “She was wearing a slutty outfit so she was asking for it” or “She’s said yes so many times; how are we supposed to believe she said no this time” are all too common.

Slut-shaming forces your own moral judgments about sexual activity onto other people.  What makes one a “slut” is arbitrary, and the label is used whenever the user wants to hurt, slander, or judge another person for whatever reason.

Slut shaming shames women in particular for exercising sexual agency, for enjoying sex, for exercising their right to say “yes”.

Slut shaming is bad because it’s really none of your business what goes on in someone’s bedroom, unless you’re invited into it.

Slut shaming is bad because there is nothing wrong with being a slut (whatever that is).

      dwindled:

Your worth is not based on how you look or how you dress. It is not based on whether or not you look or act “promiscuously” or “pure”. It is not based on how many sexual partners you have had, who they were, or whether or not you were in a monogamous relationship with them. If you have had several sexual partners or very few sexual partners it will not affect the quality of the people you choose to be with and it will not affect anyone’s ability to love you. If someone truly loves you, they will love you regardless. Having a lot of sex or having no sex doesn’t mean you’re insecure. Making personal choices regarding your sex life doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means that you’re strong enough to make the choices that are best for you and your life.

        I need feminism because..

        whoneedsfeminism:

people laughed when I told them that my boyfriend was considering taking my last name when we marry (after making fun of his last name). They laugh again, when I tell them my sister’s husband took our last name, and call him “a joke” or “whipped”. I’m proud of my name, and the history of my family. My boyfriend doesn’t care about his last name, but it’s more important to people that we appear “traditional” or that I’ve “submitted” to joining HIS family.

I think he’s been laughed at too, because recently, he changed his mind.

            Even Jesus took drugs, occasionally

            negativebuoyancy:

I understand that the title of this post may seem offensive to some, but that is not the intention. Please hear me out:

Over the past week, I have spoken to a number of people about the title of this week’s post. Their responses can quite easily be divided into two camps. There were those who replied with intrigue: “Oh, Jesus took drugs? That sounds really interesting – I’d love to see how you’d explain that”. And those who replied with outrage: “Where on earth did you get this information from, surely Christ did not do such a thing?!” Yet, my response to all of them was to ask that they give me a chance to justify my claims. Jesus is no doubt important to many people, including me, and I do not write on here to disrespect others or belittle their beliefs. However, I do see value in looking at things from a different perspective. I do still stand by my initial claim; I do believe that Jesus did indeed take drugs from time to time.

            His intoxicant of choice? Alcohol.

                ARMPIT HAIR

Hello to all of the ladies who I follow and who are following me who are loud and proud about their armpit hair.  And also whoever else is reading this (men included) who feels the need to contribute (go for it!)

I recently (well like a month or two ago) made the decision to stop shaving my pits! However, I’ve found that I’m very afraid of people seeing them and making comments/trying to call corporate on me for being ‘unhygienic’/judging me in general.

Anyway, I was wondering how all of you have dealt with these things? I don’t live in a town that’s necessarily open-minded and my family leans toward being very ‘regular.’

Obviously the ‘don’t give a fuck’ attitude is not useful advice right now. I’m still in the beginning of my awakening (slow learner), so I’m looking for something more than that.

@chrstndvtt@elisekari@maryjanejacobs@yeahgrrrl@boydecay looking at you! And I know there are more on my dash but it’s not even 830 AM and so my brain is super fuzzy and also I’m afraid I’ll post someone who DOESN’T have hairy pits which feels awkward.

                ?
